I use v9.2, but I think this problem is the same in earlier versions. The make process will fail due to that the libc-client.a in Mdk Linux is compile without and kerberos support. A separate version with ssl is however installed, called client-PHP4.a. I had to manually recompile the package and add kerberos support to it. Then it compiled just fine.
