It is written in manual entry regex.7 which is recommended to read in Regex Introduction: "A bound is `{' followed by an unsigned decimal integer, possibly followed by `,' possibly followed by another unsigned decimal integer, always followed by `}'. The integers must lie between 0 and RE_DUP_MAX (255(!)) inclusive". As there is no documentation of regular expressions syntax in PHP manual, there shouldn't be any note about this too IMHO.
