This bug has been fixed in the documentation's XML sources. Since the
online and downloadable versions of the documentation need some time
to get updated, we would like to ask you to be a bit patient.
Thank you for the report, and for helping us make our documentation
better.

Agreed it needs additional information. One day someone will research
it, find this bug report, and document this mysterious directive.

I think the documentation is still lacking. Eitherway
http://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.zend.ze1-compatibility-mode
is still pointing to the migration guide and it seems all the migration
guide (http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration5.newconf.php) does is
point back to the ini directive list
