We have way to many (read: all except Japanese and French) outdated translations that noone seems to care about. So, my personal opinion is not to create maillinglist/module/spread karma until "proof-of-willingness" to do the job is shown, i.e. having 30% of the manual translated...
I agree!
The translations are a problem, many are dead, but this proposal looks pretty legit. While starting this process please feel free to point out any problems and concerns in the HOWTO. It needs a major update in most areas so hearing what the process is like for a new translation team will be valuable information. Setting up a new translation is not a simple task and requires time from people who don't have much time these days. The catalan thread[1] (our most recent [2005] new translation afaik) should help provide information to document the process. This process is partially documented[2] but the implementation information suffers but once we have that then we'll make it easier for someone to dedicate this time. I'll write systems@ later today and Cc this list. Regards, Philip [1] http://marc.info/?t=98056279500001&r=1&w=2 [2] http://doc.php.net/php/dochowto/chapter-translation.php#translation-starting
