"configure.php" consumes all the memory

Hi!
When I run the "configure.php" script it consumes all the available
memory and swap and my computer comes almost to a full stop.
Has anyone encountered such a behaviour? What can be done in such a situation?
Details about the environment:
RAM: 1 GB
Swap: 1 GB
OS: Fedora Core 12 (64 bit)
PHP 5.3.2
Command:
php doc-base/configure.php --enable-xml-details --with-lang=ro
