Le Lundi 28 janvier 2002, à 03:40 , James Cox a écrit : Hi all. First of all, let me introduce myself. I'm Damien Seguy, and I'm mostly doing the French version of PHP documentation. I also spend a little time in the QA, with MacOSX. I'm really excited about this php evangelism project, as it is already what is missing in the French side of PHP. There are lots of technical help (full doc in French hey!). Nowadays, PHP has conquered amateur webmasters, and we need to push the PHP solutions into the professionnal arena, and show it may be used even for critical missions. So, I'm mostly talking James into doing a lot of things like setting up this list, while I watch.
We have 2, possibly 3 aims. Firstly, we have to *advocate* the use of php to people who are previously unaware, or scared, or uninitatiated in the ways of the PHP. We need to run cases studies, testimonials, bench-marks, everything that will make php become extremely tempting and exciting to people previously afraid. We will want to enlist the help of the open source movement here; this is a good time to *advocate* open source here too.
This is the first mission that I will dedicate myself. I believe we need case study, application list, benchmarks with languages, ROI, cost of ownership. I'd like to achieve this goal by gathering all those informations on one central site, and offer tools to make a useful case study. Project manager may be interested in spreading the word about their use of technology. Here is a short list of subject treated on this site : Case study Benchmark Application Press release Major figures PHP main project evolution The site will also provide a way to submit informations, and help on how to write such a files. The main objective of this part is to have a place for anyone setting up his business to have a business look at the technology. Why is it that PHP is a good choice? We'll explain it without any technical arguments.
Secondly, we need to *evangelise* the use of PHP to people who previously have either started and shy'ed away, or use it badly (and thus blame alot of the stuff that's going wrong in their scripts on us... an example would perhaps be the user who has a badly written loop, but doesn't understand looping, gives up - and blames us for writing bad software). Here, we need to publish articles, content scriptlets, code snippets, libraries, and everything else a PHP developer can benefit from, and improve her code by.
Finally, we need to look at producing something that will support all the
PHP user groups, and discussion forums. We want to look at providing them with webspace, url, etc.
This may also create vocation and there are already a lot of those User group all over the world (toronto user group, all the German groups, and so many others..) Here is what I'll be contributing for. I hope this will create other vocations. Damien Seguy.
