From: "Brazilian Joe" <tmpfreire@terra.com.br>I think this belongs on php evangelism. I have earned enough trust to convince the company to install php on our IIS server. I would like to see some performace comparison between PHP 5 and PHP 4, if possible under both Linux and Windows. Can Include comparisons to ASP etc too, but I am more concerned in knowing whether the upgrade from version 4 to version 5 will be worthwhile. Do you have some numbers or URLs to share?Isn't this going to depend too greatly upon what extensions your using, what your applications do, what hardware your using, what webserver you're using, etc? I can run a FOR loop test and declare PHP5 IS FASTER!! but does that really help you? ---John Holmes... the common language constructs are a way of telling how much efficient it is, if a bunch of proper tests are written for each one. I am looking for syntethic and real-world performance comparisons, like Mysql queries per second for example, or how many times can it find a substring, some palpable numbers which tell me that PHP 5 has an advantage. over PHP 4. I have read about the new features, but so far I have not seen this type of comparison .*benchmarking* PHP5 vs PHP4. of course, there is no way to make a full comparison, but benchmarks can encompass the most common use cases, and tell in simple graphs and numbers that we will have (just an example) a 20% performance improvement on sql queries, or a 500% improvement on floating point intensive apllications.
