Maybe "as how they are abused.." On my site, I give out a cookie, but only after you log in, and it expires quickly. I don't want it to stay valid forever, and I don't care if it gets bumped out of the jar. I don't store tons of junk on your machine either, just a single value to authenticate you between pages.
