I've been unable to get Access 2000 on Windows 98 to successfully use the MySQL ODBC (2.50.31) to link tables with MySQL on Linux. Same ODBC drivers work fine with earlier version of Access. However, I heard only today from a colleague who had similar problems that the latest update from Microsoft for the jet engine for 2000 now seems to make things work from Access 2000. I don't have any more detail than that. My earlier experience was that Access 2000 could connect to MySQL server ok, but if you tried to export a table from Access to MySQL using ODBC that the MySQL server log showed Access failed to generate fieldnames in its table create command, so you'd end up with a MySQL log entry like ... CREATE TABLE ( middleint, varchar(40), varchar(2), varchar(50), varchar(150), varchar(8), varchar(1), varchar(12), varchar(15), varchar(4)) ... which clearly MySQL rejected. Updating a table wasn't that reliable either. I did post questions about this at the time the the mysql list but got no fixes suggested, so I tend to think it was probably a MS problem. The MS lists also seemed to show that Access 2000 had problems using ODBC to talk to Oracle as well, so I don't think it was just a MySQL problem. If you do get it all working I'd really like to hear how you did it.
