Configure failure

When I try to configure PHP 4.2.0 on Solaris 8 with this command.
./configure --with-apxs2=/path/to/apxs --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-gd=/usr/local/lib
It occured error this following:
configure: error: Unable to find libgd.(a|so) anywhere under /usr/local/lib
But actually, libgd.a is there. How can I do?
