This would be:
local = 'x', city = 'x', postcode = 'x', id = 'x'WHERE
username='x'
Which is your fault.
> $sql .= "WHERE username='$username'";
needs to change to
> $sql .= " WHERE username='$username'";
i.e., the space.
A simply mysql_error, or even echo $sql before you did the query would have
shown this for you....
