PHP 4.2.1 won't build with apache 2.0.39

I get the following:
phpfucntions.c:93:27: missing binary operator before '('
then other related errors, but nothing descriptive, just the rest of the
make[X]: ***[php_functions.lo] Error 1, such lines.
Anyway, I'm trying CVS, but I was curious if anyone else had this issue.
