If you're getting localhost as the remote address, it sounds like you're
running the web browser on the web server... try 'phpinfo();' to see what
the SERVER_ADDR is... otherwise, that seems freakish to me...
As far as 'do we have a function to do that', please try to read the
manual...

Subject: [PHP-GENERAL] Doubt in PHP
Sir/Madam,
We are working in PHP and we do not know how to obtain the IP address of
the
client system from the server. When we give the command
echo REMOTE_ADDR;
we get only the IP address of the local host which is 127.0.0.1.
But if we want to get the actual IP address of the client how do we do that?
Please do clear our doubts.
If we know the system name how can we obtain the IP address using the name
of
the system. Do we have any specific function to obtain that.
Please do reply.
Thanking you in advance,
Regards,
Sujatha.
