Couple of thoughts.
If you're running PHP as an Apache module, did you restart Apache after
making the changes?
Are you SURE you modified the correct php.ini file?
For those, check the output of phpinfo();
Is the data actually coming out fine, but the HTML content in the output
messes up the page you're viewing, making it LOOK like it's not coming
out? For this, do a view source of the resulting page. Oh, but you said
it works okay under ASP/IIS. But, check it anyway, because it may be
escaped in the old script but not the new script.
