fsockopen()

I have a call to fsockopen() in a script - and it seems to hang the script
and never execute, the page never completes within an amount of time that i
can wait. Im wondering what the problem is or if i am using the function in
correctly...
$fpp = fsockopen($server,$port, &$errorno, &$errorstr);
