MySQL enum types are always strings.Right -- in MySQL. Let me ask the same question about INT columns. Does it get converted to a string when it comes into PHP (like a GET variable does when it arrives at the new script, regardless of its type before transmission), or does PHP recognize that the value is coming from a numeric column and it appropriately casts the value as numeric (or rather, it -doesn't- cast the value into a string)? Either way, you've answered my question (thank you) so I am all set on the ENUM front but for future reference I am just curious about how PHP handles MySQL result data. When I get some time I will use Remy's suggestion of using gettype() on the data. Erik ---- Erik Price Web Developer Temp Media Lab, H.H. Brown pricee@hhbrown.com
