You are echo-ing out the query to be sure it's what you think it is?...
Compare the version of the db-server you are actually running, and the
version that <?php phpinfo();?> was compiled to work with.
If they are not an exact match, re-compile PHP with the correct source.
Also be sure you have up-to-date software for both PHP and the db-server.
Search http://bugs.php.net/ for the same error message.
If that doesn't do it, boil down your problem to the smallest possible
source code, and submit it to http://bugs.php.net/
