PHP4 bug #4696/4542: Make problem on IRIX - any work arounds?

Hi, I have run into an install problem (the open bugs #4696/4542) when trying to install PHP4 on IRIX (6.5.7m). I have PHP3.0.16 running fine but would like to use the session functions. I am curious if anyone has a solution to installing PHP4 or I does one need to wait until there is an update to php4? (I have tried both make and gmake.)
