Best String to Array Solution

Greetings, this may be simple, but it's late and my brain needs a hand. I have a string such as "first,second,third,fourth" I need a way to take each one of the items separated by the comma to be an item in an array. I tried ereg() but to no avail. Is there a simpler way to do it? Thanks gang! Chaka Loves You!
