header and PHP_AUTH_USER

If I use a header to redirect to a new page, the PHP_AUTH_USER info seems to
be lost.
If I use a simple submit button to load the page, the PHP_AUTH_USER info
shows up.
The code I'm using to redirect is:
header ("Location: HTTP://www.xxx.com/c5.html?aboutradio=$aboutradio");
exit;
The header is working fine, but when I get to /c5.html, the code is screwing
up because it can't find PHP_AUTH_USER.
Any ideas?
