ftp_connect function

I know I have seen this posted before, but for the life of me, I cannot
remember the posted solution.
Anyway, when I try to use the ftp_connect function (PHP4), I receive an
error that reads:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: ftp_connect()
When I compiled PHP, I included the --enable-ftp directive and once
compilation was complete (I did a make and a make install), I restarted
the web server, and I still got the above error.
If someone could please explain what I might have missed, I would greatly
appreciate it!!
