I'm pretty sure that the textarea widget in both Internet Explorer and Netscape (at least on Win32) is a subclass of the standard Windows text box, which has an inherent 64K limit (except on NT, where the widget can hold much more). Because of this, you probably won't be able to get more than 64K uploaded at once. HOWEVER, there may be another limit that's coming into play long before the 64K Windows text box limit: a CGI limit. If you're uploading using GET (as opposed to POST), you can't upload more than about 1000 characters at a time (including field names). Make sure that you're using the POST method. --Bruce Bruce Christensen Intel Corporation brucex.r.christensen@intel.com -----Original Message----- From: Greg Schnippel [mailto:schnippy@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2000 3:43 PM To: php-general@lists.php.net Subject: [PHP] How can I insert large amounts of text in Textarea? Hello all, I am trying to create a content-adminstration panel for a non-profit think tank. I need to create a form where they can just paste in large amounts of text that will then be inserted into the MYSql database and used to create the HTML files. The problem is that <textarea> seems to have a limit on the amount of text that it will allow (?) Is this a browser limitation (using Netscape/IE 4.0) and does anyone have an idea how I can get around it? I'm using PHP for the form processing, is there a way I can use PHP to split up the file upon arrival, or? The easiest solution would be to have them upload a text file and insert that into the database but I don't want to have them take the extra step of converting it. Any ideas? -greg _______________________________ Greg Schnippel schnippy@earthlink.net -- ICQ# 67413292 -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-general-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-general-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net
