I had a similar problem like the one listed below. Couple of things to check... The error message you are getting is actually a problem with the pdflib.so itself and how it is compiled. PDFlib 3.0 needs newer versions of JPEGlib and PNGlib and TIFFlibs... Make sure you have newer versions of those libs... And that you only have one copy on your system (I had a couple). I went through several things and solved the problem when I compiled PDFlib to not use TIFFs. Here is a cut out of an e-mail I sent to a friend who was helping me with the project. This build was done on a BSDi 4.1 machine. But other than building Apache static... It should be close... ---Inserted Text--- So would you like to know how I fixed it? :-) Okay... Well the problem sort of starts in PDFlib and works it way around. The first problem we were having with PHP not wanting to configure (pdf_show_boxed error) was related to the OTHER libraries in the system... It turns out that libpng and libtiff are both installed with BSDi in /usr/lib (which I did not know 'cause I am a BSDi novice). So I removed the offending libraries (static and dynamic) and then proceeded on my marry way. That fixed the PHP config error were were getting, and I started to get smug. Of course when I moved over to apache and ran the config it barfed. Same error as before, but missing a few items. DAMN... Seeing as how all the errors were now TIFF related I decided to go back and reconfigure PDFlib without the TIFFlib... And that is where we are now. So in brief recap form: pdflib dir: ./configure --with-tifflib=no gmake && gmake install php dir: ./configure --with-mysql --with-pdflib --with-apache=../apache_1.3.12 gmake && gmake install apache dir: ./configure --prefix=/www --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a gmake Now I have to hope I didn't need any of those TIFF functions... I believe (I hope) that they were mainly for TIFF insertion into a PDF document. I can still insert PNGs and JPEGs if I am so interested. ---End Inserted Text--- I hope that will help you as I wasted a ton of development time on getting this up and running...
