644 should be fine. I don't know about you, but for some reason on my linux box, I can't get $HTTP_POST_VARS or $_POST to work at all. it sends the value wrong. If I were you'd change the form method=post to method=get and then use $HTTP_GET_VARS or $_GET and see if it works. I think there is a bug with method=POST in php 4.2.2.
