Brad tipped me off to this:
http://www.php.net/manual/ref.sem.php
That will let you do shared variables, but I don't know if it will do
objects.
As an aside, I just thought of a cool (but probably useless) way of caching
PHP files (not objects): make them self-modifying. They would re-write
their own code whenever they expire, and then write a new expires time into
code. When the page is called, it checks if it has expired. If it has, it
re-writes itself with new content, otherwise it displays the embedded static
content.
Another way to do this is to have the PHP file write a .html file that it
includes in itself if it's expired. Less cool, but probably more useful.

Subject: [PHP] object caching on the server
Is there a way/technique to cache objects in server memory, so I may avoid
some
of the overhead of object creation? I guess I mean making them persistent in
the same way that *_pconnect does for the database functions.
