Sending running under user Apache??

Hi all...
For some reason, starting today, sendmail will not run
as root on my server...it starts as user "apache".
This is causing permission problems with the mail
queue. I have made no configuration modifications to
the server in months.
Does anyone know why this may be happening, or how to
fix it?
