setcookie IE6 problem

I'm setting a session cookie with the following code - function setSessionCookie(){ $expires = time()+$this->session_expires; $issetCookie = setcookie("$this->cookiename",

                           "$this->sess_id",
                           "$expires",
                           "/",
                           ""
                          );

} Occasionally setcookie seems to fail in IE6, or perhaps when I subsequently retrieve the cookie as a part of the authentication code on each page IE6 fails to pick up the cookie - either way I get logged out.
