If the version of tar on your host system does not support uncompressing on the fly, then use gunzip php-4.0.1pl2.tar.gz which leaves you with php-4.0.1pl2.tar then run tar xf php-4.0.1pl2.tar which leaves you with the directory php-4.0.1pl2 Or just use the short form that Tyler gave. You can easily get the file directly to the unix host from a telnet login if you have access to either lynx or ftp from the host. Lynx is a textbased webbrowser, and to use it you'd type $ lynx http://www.php.net/ and then manouver to the file and hit "d" to download it. Or use the commandline version of ftp $ ftp ftp.php.net Best regards, Jesper juhl juhl@eisenstein.dk > PHP4.0.1pl2 include everything you should need. > To uncompress is in it's .tar.gz format, issue the following command in > unix: > tar xfz php-4.0.1pl2.tar.gz > -- > Tyler Longren > [Web Development] > Premier Visual Services > http://www.pvs2000.com > On Sat, 12 Aug 2000, Claude Cormier wrote: > > Date: Sat, 12 Aug 2000 16:30:54 -0400 > > To: PHP General List <php-general@lists.php.net> > > From: Claude Cormier <techsupport@devises-or.com> > > Subject: [PHP] First time Installing PHP > > > > Hello everybody, > > > > I am new to PHP and need to install it in my account at my host server. > > This host has already PHP4 installed.
