Strange "1" after include

Hi all,
Im wondering why does a number 1 appears in the output after the
included text has been showed. I have a menu file for including and I
just put <?=include(menu.inc)?> but then the output shows:

and I dont have that number in either my script nor my include file. If
I put:
<?
Include (menu.inc);
?>
it shows normally without the 1
Why is that?
