about the way socket_select works...

Hi This may seem a stupid question but here goes. I'm working on my masters thesis and I'm programming a small daemon to gather some statistics from the network using PHP. My idea was to have a tcpstat process started via popen. Since this thing is going to be concurrent I thought about using socket_select on the file descriptor coming from popen, along with some open sockets that I have, but it didn't work.
