I use PayPal. Their "Instant Payment Notification" system is easy to work with. You tell
PayPal how much to charge by posting a form to them, filled with hidden variables. PayPal/IPN then
immediately sends notifcation back to you, which includes name, address, email address, amount
collected, etc. Fairly cheap, to:: 30 cents plus 2.9 percent. Paypal provides sample code.

I have a client using http://worldpay.com/, but it might be a
bit basic for
your needs. You hand your customers off to them, they take care of the
secure servers, cc validation, payment collection etc etc, and then pass
them back to you.
We've had no problems with it so far, but I'm not sure if it's exactly what
you're after.
Cheers
Jon
