PHP and Images

Hi Everyone,
I never did any programs using GD/Image tools with PHP. This is my first program
and it is not showing any image as I expected.
I am using PHP3.0.15 with GD support. I checked the mailing list and didn't the
answer for my question. I tried couple of examples from the mailing list and none
of them worked. Please see code below
$id = ImageCreateFromGif("test.gif");
$black = ImageColorAllocate($id, 0, 0, 0);
$lin = ImageLine($id,0,0,100,100,$black);
ImageGIF($id,"test.gif");
I have given +rw for all users and I didn't have any problem creating the image.
After that, I am using <img> tag to display it. While trying with netscape,
netscape crashed, and IE is showing no image. I tried with ImagePng and it said it
is not supported.
I am pretty sure, I am doing something wrong here. Please correct me or direct me
to some urls.
