You need to remove the semicolon from the beginning of your heredoc
expression. The semicolon tells PHP (incorrectly) that the instruction
terminates, while in fact it doesn't:
<?php
$name="John Doe"
echo <<< ENDOFECHO;
<HTML>
<BODY>
<H3>ECHO TEST</H3>
Hello, $name.
</BODY>
</HTML>
ENDOFECHO;
?>
This will work.
