mail and from line overriding

Hi,
I have something like following:
$from = "w@abc.com";
$email = "w@xyz.com";
$msg = "abcde";
mail($email, $subj, $msg, $from);
the message sent always has the 'from' line taken from php.ini, not $from,
is there a way to override this ? Thanks.
