As far as I understand it, that's exactly what it does. You compile
your PHP source to a "bytecode" binary and save it to a disk. Then you
run your binary (from the local machine or remotely through a Web
browser) with a bytecode execution engine. This would be *exactly* like
how Java works.
Of course, I could be mistaken. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
