I recently asked about this and was pointed to the following variables in
php.ini to specify how long the data is valid:
session.gc_probability = 1
session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440
However, the session files do not seem to be cleaned up, so here is a
shell script that I run (with cron) to do that:
#!/bin/sh
# phpexpiresessions: remove old PHP session files from /tmp
find /tmp -name "sess_*" \! \( -atime 1 \) -print -exec rm {} \;
