There should be two section in the httpd.conf of Apache 1.3.12, one the for
php3 and another for php4. The main different is that MIME type for php3 is
called application/x-httpd-php3 and for php4 is called
application/x-httpd-php (without the "3").
Uncomment "AddType application/x-httpd-php" and comment out "AddType
application/x-httpd-php3". You might want to map to more extensions, such as
.php3, .phtml, .inc, for backward compatibility.
You might also want to edit the "DirectoryIndex" part of httpd.conf, to add
in "index.php" as the directory index file.
The runtime configuration of php is in php.ini. You can find a file called
php.ini-dist in the source directory. Copy it to, let's say,
/usr/local/lib/php.ini.
The compile time configuration is done when you run "configure" in the php
source. For example:
./configure --with-apache=../apahce_1.3.12 --with-mysql --with-ldap --with-g
d --with-mcrypt --with-mhash --enable-memory-limit=yes
Good luck.
