BLOBs and Interbase

Sorry for putting this question here, but I did not get any reply from the php-db list. I guess it does not have many subscribers. I need to insert text blobs into Interbase tables from PHP. A quick glance in the C source code reveals that there should be support for BLOBS, and many people seem to use it, even if the blob functions are not documented. I have tried the following: $blob = ibase_blob_create(); ibase_blob_add($blob, "Hello"); ibase_blob_close($blob); ibase_query("insert into Table(text) values ($blob)"); which yields an error message: Warning: InterBase: conversion error from string "BLOB" in <file> on line <line>. $blob seems to be a numerical ID.
