Since you've just started, you may not know that there is no need to convert
between numbers and strings in PHP. Everything is automatically converted
back and forth for you under normal circumstances.
Now if you need to know absolutely if something is a character/string or a
number, that's a different story.
Dean.

What's the best way to convert a number to a character?
I hope this isn't annoyingly simple. I've just started.
Thanks for your time.
