I'm a newbie...
I got 'Core PHP Programming' by Leon Atkinson awhile back, it was a good
start, but not exactly what I was looking for. I love having all the sample
code on the CD, but he doesn't really do a good enough job of explaining the
functions and why he writes something one way instead of another.
So...I recently bought 'Professional PHP Programmng' by Jesus Castagnetto
and 4 other geeks. This is the book to get. They explain everything they're
doing pretty well, and each chapter/concept has sample code that you write
and add to as a course of practical study. The chapters on installation,
configuration and interfacing with MySQL have proven invaluable...I highly
reccommend it.
