AFAIR, there have been a few bug reports of similar behaviour, and in each
case it's been put down to Apache 2. I'd suggest trying Apache 1 with
latest PHP 4.3.0, and see if that solves your problem -- if so, it looks
like it's another PHP4/Apache2 instability.
