Unable to load dynamic library ... php_gd.dll

I have moved an old web to a new server (Windows-2000) with fresh versions of php (4.3.0) and GD. I get the error message "Unable to load dynamic library .../php_gd.dll. The specified procedure could not be found. This looks like a false setting of the extension_dir path in php.ini but this is correct. I have also put a copy of php_gd.dll on the c:/php directory where php.exe is located, but this does not help. I have tried to limit the number of Image* routines involved by trying the simple php script given below, but the same error message keeps popping up. Can someone give me a suggestion here?
