Turn off PHP for certain directories?

Is it possible (using an apache directive, perhaps?) to turn off php parsing
for certain directories within a site? (but not others?)
I picture something like (in httpd.conf)
<directory /home/www/somesite.com/codearchive>
AllowOverride All
Options FollowSymLinks
NoParsePHP
</directory>
Can this be done? How? Perhaps as a php_value entry in the <VirtualHost>
directive?
