I run Redhat 6.2 with the same Apache version and PHP as a statice module and haven't had any problems. Have you tried just doing a quick install with no configure options accept --with-apache and -config-file-path ? To answer your question, there is nothing wrong with Redhat 6.2 and it's support of Apache/PHP.
