filesize

Why would two lines have the actual filesize listed, and the rest be
blank?
while ($file = readdir($handle))
{
$file_size ="0";
clearstatcache ();
if ($file != "." && $file != "..")
{
$file_weight = filesize ( "$file" );
$total_size += filesize("$file");
echo " File: $file
Size: $file_weight<br>";
}
}
Any clues? perhaps I need to do a $stat_info =stat($file) to get a
better reading?
