I don't think that would really cut it, unless the file you
prepended would handle dynamic variables. I mean, the
concept of changing
$APPVARIABLE = "new value"
in one page and having $APPVARIABLE be "new value"
in another page. This would be similar to sessions, but they're
cross-user - they don't apply to a single user, but all users
in that set of PHP files (collectively, the 'application').
The only way I can see around something like this is
to roll your own session code, but have it write/read to
a standard table with app info for all users, not broken down
by session ids or anything like that.
Using a DB would make it be scaleable to multiple machines as well.
