PHP4pl2 meet POP3 via IMAP

Ok, i compiled everything just fine. I'm trying to connect to a POP3 daemon (ipop3d that came w/ UW IMAP). I get the following error:
Warning: Couldn't open stream {host.net/pop3:110}INBOX in inbox.php on line 13
and so on. The only thing i can check with these IMAP funciton is the IMAP daemon that's patiently listening on 143
I've also tried to access other computers and i still get that same error.
In a completely unrelated matter: When i try to login to POP on my computer, i never get the PASS right, even if it obviously is. Is there a better POP3 daemon i should pick up?
In any case, in browsing the archives, this seems to be a *common* error, but no solution appears to work. ANY help appareciated.
