Hi, some hints: Try to read ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/rfc1345.txt, and if this is not the right adress (I remember it is, but is unchecked) then search for the rfc1345 at http://www.rfc-editor.org [<-- this is right, I'm sure :-) ] This is the Character Mnemonics & Character Sets by Keld Simonen (or Simonsen). 244 Kb (aprox), 103 pages (text only format). Try the compiled list of the ISO 8859 Character Sets compiled by Roman Czyborra at http://czyborra.com/charsets/iso8859.html (Unchecked) Try this to: http://www.w3.org/hypertext/WWW/MarkUp/html3/latin1.html (Unchecked for the Standard of the charsets of the html made by the W3C. Check one thing, this is the address I founded, but if is not work properly try http://www.w3c.org/hypertext/WWW/MarkUp/html3/latin1.html). The Appendix II of CERN's HTML+ Discussion Document contains a table (in PostScript format) of the proposed character entities for HTML+ and their corresponding character codes for Unicode and the Adobe Latin-1 & Symbol character sets. (http://www.w3.org/hypertext/WWW/MarkUp/HTMLPlus/htmlplus_table.ps) (Unckecked but try to http://www.w3c.org/..., you know.) There is nothing wrong with using characters of ISO Latin-1 above 127: the normal transmission protocol for the WWW, HTTP/1.0, uses the 8bit ISO latin-1 as default encoding. (You may use this information, even I don't know how and were but it were at the document I founded. HTTP/1.0 is defined at rfc1945.) Try this too: http://www.bbsinc.com/iso8859.html, page by Kevin J. Brewer. I founded an html file in my archive from about a year ago (made by Martin Ramsch) and I don't remember were I did founded, but I guess that has the information you're looking for. Hope one of this helps you. Still having troubles? write to me (mario_s@amigo.net.gt). Greetings. Instead of umlauts I get ? or squares or anything else, but not those umlauts. What is the problem, can anybody help, please? Thanks. ps. I've chosen utf-8, because I have to have Western European _and_ Cyrillic characters on the same page. utf-8 seems to be the only encoding to let me do that. pps. originally posted at php.lang, but it seems that no one lives there anymore.... :-/ -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
