php.ini phpinfo() mysql

Is there some reason why when phpinfo is run it is saying that I have mysql 3.23 installed when I have 4.0 installed? When I run phpmyadmin is sees that I have the correct mysql version installed, except when I run phpinfo.. Is it seeing some other version of mysql and using it.. or.. im just a bit confused! Thanks!
