Quistion for installation help

Hello I would like to ask some questions regarding installation of my-sql and php, witch I can’t get to rum. I am using the book “php in easy steps” as guide to the installation. My system is WinXP almost a clear reinstall. I have downloaded the mysql 4.0.12 and put it into a folder c/mysql. The book talks about a file named my-example.cnf, witch must be copied to the root of c/, and renamed to mycnf.cnf. My problem is that I can’t find this file, and due to that I can’t do this. Next to that I have been trying to configurate Apache (this is running) for php. Php 4.3.1 is the wersion. The book told me to type 4 new lines in a document called httpd.conf but I only have a text file called httpd (whitout “.conf”). The 4 lines is as follows, AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .php4 AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps ScriptAlias /php/ “c:/php/” Action application/x-httpd-php “/php/php.exe” These 4 lines is sat just beneath a line, AddType application/x-tar .tgz Can some of you se if I have done something wrong? Do I need these to exact files whitch I haven’t found? - Is it possible to download these separate? I can delete what I have done till now, because I still have the unextracted zip-files. I’m asking because I am going to a job, where I need to learn php, and I try to learn a little at home. Please help me if You can.
